Cold-formed steel portal frame moment-resisting joints: Behaviour, capacity and design

چکیده

The work presented in this paper investigates the strength of moment-resisiting apex brackets cold-formed steel portal frames. results two previously reported full-scale frame tests, where frames failed through buckling bracket, were used to validate a finite element model that included material nonlinearity, geometric imperfections, and bolt bearing behaviour. From test as well results, importance appropriate detailing for is demonstrated. A simplified bracket then presented, again validated against experimental tests. effects geometrical parameters brackets, bolt-group configuration, yield stress investigated parametric study comprising 648 models. study, design equations are proposed can be by practicing engineers predict

Tests to Determine the Joint Stiffness and Resisting Moment Capacity of Joints in Timber-Framed Houses

Wind and earthquake disasters in the world often cause billions of dollars of damage to buildings, most of which is to non-engineered buildings-especially homes. Wood-frame homes use connectors which exhibit partial rotational rigidity at the member ends, making analytical solutions difficult. This is due to the lack of information about the complex behavior of the connections used in this type...

Design of Steel Plate Shear Walls Considering Boundary Frame Moment Resisting Action

Conventional design of steel plate shear walls SPSWs assumes that 100% of the story shear is resisted by each infill panel. Following this approach, strength provided by the boundary frame moment resisting action, which provides the SPSW with overstrength, is neglected. While this design assumption has a positive impact on seismic performance of SPSWs, no analytical work has been done to quanti...

Performance Evaluation of Curved-TADAS Damper on Seismic Response of Moment Resisting Steel Frame

In this study, the performance of triangular added damping and stiffness (TADAS) dampers combined with curved dampers (Curved-TADAS damper) is evaluated in moment resisting steel frame (MRSF). These dampers are passive and install in the beam-column connection region. Variable parameters of this study involve the width of curved damper (50, 75 and 100 mm), the thickness of TADAS damper (5 and 1...

Robustness Assessment of Steel Moment Resisting Frames

Nowadays, many buildings with steel Moment Resisting Frames (MRF) are built in seismic zones when seismic codes are at its early stages of development, and as such, these structures are often designed solely to resist lateral wind loads without providing an overall ductile mechanism. On the other hand, current seismic design criteria based on hierarchy of resistance allow enhancing the structur...

Period Formulas for Moment-resisting Frame Buildings

Most seismic codes specify empirical formulas to estimate the fundamental vibration period of buildings. Evaluated first in this paper are the formulas specified in present US codes using the available data on the fundamental period of buildings “measured” from their motions recorded during eight California earthquakes, starting from the 1971 San Fernando earthquake and ending with the 1994 Nor...
